Discover Istanbul’s unique connection with its beloved street cats on this full-day guided tour. From the historic streets of Sultanahmet to the colorful lanes of Balat and the lively neighborhoods of Kadıköy, meet the city’s most famous feline residents while experiencing authentic Turkish culture.
We meet at your hotel, where your friendly local guide will welcome you and give a short introduction to Istanbul’s famous street cats and their cultural significance. Then we explore the area around the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, where dozens of friendly cats roam freely among historic landmarks. Learn their stories, meet the locals who care for them, and capture beautiful photos along the way.
We continue to the colorful Balat neighborhood, known for its vibrant houses, art galleries, and of course, its many feline residents. Visit hidden alleyways and charming streets where cats nap under painted balconies. We’ll also stop by cozy local cafés that double as cat sanctuaries, and learn more about community-led cat care initiatives.
Enjoy a relaxing break at a warm and welcoming cat café. Sip freshly brewed Turkish coffee or tea while playing with adorable, adoptable cats. Your guide will share tips on how Istanbulites care for their feline friends and where to find the city’s best cat-friendly spots.
Cross the Bosphorus by ferry to the lively Asian side of Istanbul. Enjoy stunning city views, feed the seagulls, and keep an eye out — cats often join the ride too! As we arrive in Kadıköy, you’ll see waterfront cats lounging along the docks, a perfect moment for unique photos.
In Kadıköy, we’ll visit the legendary statue of Tombili, the chubby street cat who became an international internet sensation. Wander through charming alleys filled with bookshops, cafés, and small shelters created by locals for street cats. Meet cat-loving volunteers and discover how the community works together to keep Istanbul’s cats safe and happy.
Visit a local artisan shop where you can find handmade cat-themed souvenirs to remember your experience. Then, join a short community-led activity distributing food and treats to street cats with the guidance of a local NGO dedicated to animal welfare.
Our tour ends at the beautiful Moda seaside park, where you can relax, enjoy the sunset, and spend some final moments with Istanbul’s beloved cats. If you wish, your guide will recommend local seaside restaurants where you can enjoy dinner with Bosphorus views.
End of the tour.
